A form and style I've gone with on a number of occasions, I seem to return to this one. One snowy winter as a young teen, I would venture out in the evenings and take a walk to a small hillside nearby that overlooked a field, where I would light up a cigarette (I finally quit in 1985), gaze at the night sky and snowy landscape, and take in the silence. I vividly remember that to this day as a 60 something. A sense of peace and solitude sought out at an early age.
I still appreciate solitude, in a way a good number of others may not. Being alone with my thoughts is something I actively seek out. And when I can do it among nature, all the better.
Blue has always been a go to color for me. The painting here began with a background of mild texture painted over with Payne's Gray, one of my favorites which is essentially dark blue combined with black. Over that are various shades of blue, enhancing the starless night sky. That over a snowy field bring a sense of calm serenity, and the added feature of the night flowing into the snowy earth is purely imagination.
