Beginning with a quickly painted background of muted earth tones, I then added thick texture with a clear acrylic gel.  Before it dried I cut and pressed various lines and ridges into it resulting in something that presents a touch of a third dimension to the piece when new paint is added over the gel texture.

There is a strong contrast in the forefront brings a sense of depth to the piece.  The ridges and lines present paint differently than a flat canvas, better experienced in person, although the photos do it justice.

While I've been working on this style off and on the past few years, a decent amount of my recent work has ended up here.  I'm not sure how long that will continue.  I guess it's an unintentional series of landscapes.

Tools used to create this painting include brushes, palette knives, spatulas, pencils, rags, fingers, spray bottles, squirt bottles and brayers.

Things on Horizons ships framed as shown, free in the continental US.
