What began in June of 2022 is finally complete. The backstory of The Mood? Iteration after iteration after iteration.
Yet again, what I've ended up with is not what I expected when I started this piece. Yes, oftentimes things go exactly as planned. This piece? No.
Grand designs in the initial plan were for texture, white, turquoise, orange/red and a ton of the lines and shapes I so love. After a few runs in that direction, I decided that wasn't the way to go. People always ask, "how do you know when you're done?". If it doesn't work for me, it's not done.
Adding more texture and depth with various heavy body mediums gave me the chance to highlight the relief - peaks, plains and valleys - which when painted over, enhance the levels and shades of gray. Minimal color pops, along with the starkness of the black lines/shapes/squiggles. I love this style of abstract. This speaks to me. I hope it does you as well.
