A small acrylic piece painted on birch panel with 1" sides, Organic continues my look into the natural world resulting from millions of years of wear, decay, and formation. This could be a piece of granite, a rock formation you see driving down the highway or on a hike in the woods. It has the colors you'd find here in the midwest consisting of variations of red (clay), muted orange, gold, yellow, gray and more.
Beginning with a background of black and gray and as much white as necessary to create the texture I desired, I work the paint just as it's drying to lift the relief even more to accept the laying down of color as I see fit. Heavy body acrylics and high flow acrylics were used, combined with water, applied with rags, fingers and brayers. Pigmented sticks were also gently scraped onto the surface with a knife and worked wet for added color and effect.
