Up from the south, they come.  They walk hundreds of miles by themselves, with their families, all their worldly belongings, and all their hopes and dreams.  Trying to wrap my brain around this immense undertaking has been impossible thus far.  Why here?  Why not somewhere else?  Why go to a place you've never been, don't speak the language, and have no real clue what you'll do to survive when you get here?  How bad can things be where you came from to take this gargantuan risk?  

I added a subtle fence to the horizon on this piece (instead of the Rio Grand river) to illustrate the divide where dreamers come in desperation.  It's only a small fence (or an easily crossed river), but it's still a rubicon of sorts to those who risk it all in making the trek.  There is no political statement here.  I have no answers to the problems of immigration here in the US.  I have sympathy for those who make the trip.  I have sympathy for local governments and states trying to find ways to deal with it.  I just don't know.  I only try and walk a mile in their shoes.
