Landscape of the Mind

I can't point to a single artist or painting that got me interested in painting, but growing up here in St. Louis, I loved seeing the old worn ads on the sides of brick buildings in the city.  Sometimes there's just a portion of one left, or you could see they'd been painted over more than once with another advertisement or two.  Something about hiding the past trying to make way for the new.  

That's what occurred to me as I was working on this multi layered piece.  Painting over, scraping off.  Making lines and covering them up.  Putting down a heavy color then hiding a good part of it. And scraping off just enough to reveal just a touch of the old.  Much of my art reflects this idea whether intentionally or not.  

This is another loose take on a landscape of sorts.  Dimension, levels, distance.  It's here in this one but I won't be specific as to exactly what or where it might be.  It's art.  It's abstract art.  I can just point you in a direction.  You make of it what you want.   

Paints applied with brushes, brayers, rags, fingers and knives.  Scraped off and reapplied with the same tools.
