Depth of Horizons

Landscapes with horizons seem to be my unofficial go to "recognizable" paintings.  There is a true sense of a field, meadow and horizon in these, but with my special take on what is living within said scape.

Warm autumn colors dominate this piece that features deep texture to add a sense of dimension (see additional close ups).  Upon close inspection you'll find suggestions of flowers and grasses.  Horizons near and far in the field of view add depth as well.  Note that the background was painted on before the application of the textured transparent acrylic gel.

I used a ton of acrylic gel to add to the texture, which offers an interesting presentation when painting over the peaks and crevices.  I like how the unpredictability of how it accepts paint application gives unique qualities to this painting.

I used brushes, brayers, scrapers, palette knives, fingers, rags, squirt bottles and pigment sticks to create this one, with the usual "what if I do this" element during the process.
