I cannot speak for other artists, but where this piece is concerned, my gut tells me we all find ourselves in a similar situation from time to time, especially abstract artists.
I'd set out to create something specific with Aesthetic #2. I knew the color palette, I knew the layout and I knew exactly what direction I was headed. I threw down the blue, then the yellow oxide with a slight overlap to the initial blue on white. As expected, being a semi-transparent color, the yellow changed as it overlayed the light blue, offering a pale yellow green that I found immediately appealing. Stepping back and taking a good long look, I realized this painting works as is. Honestly this happens often to me, but I'll usually keep going and continue painting. Not here.
Because of how I work my colors, the mottled feel of the pigments vary quite a bit. From darker blues to lighter and the same for the yellow oxide. From a rusty dirty yellow green to almost transparent. This is a mood piece. And one with neutral washed out color. I see this type work as one of the reasons I began painting seriously. I see things in paintings, but it's much more than "seeing". This piece evokes feeling and depth in its subtlety. My eye tells me that. And I see exactly this every day as I walk through my city, down the streets and highways. It's a phenomenon that I cannot escape.
There is art in most everything, and I see it.
