I'm Brian Kirchoff, a St. Louis-based American abstract artist. I don't really begin with a blank canvas. I build something, paint over it, uncover parts of it, alter it, and respond to what remains. Layers of color, texture, line and mark accumulate as the painting evolves.

I tend to work in one direction for months or even years, then move on—carrying ideas and techniques from one body of work into the next. The paintings may look quite different from one another, but there is a common visual vocabulary running through them.

Some are purely abstract. Others suggest landscapes, seascapes, architecture or something else entirely. I leave that interpretation largely up to you.

The paintings below are currently available for purchase. All these original works were created with Golden Heavy Body and High Flow acrylics and finished with two coats of varnish for protection and long-term enjoyment. Most ship framed as shown, unless otherwise noted.
